WHAT DOES CACAO BEVERAGE TASTE LIKE?

WHERE DO YOUR CACAO BEANS COME FROM?

We source all our cacao beans from farms on the island of St. Lucia, who operate in accordance with the highest standards of quality. Empowering small family farmers to cultivate farmland,  supporting agroforestry farming.

IS CACAO  A SUPERFOOD?

The superfood of all superfoods, cacao is also one of the highest sources of magnesium in nature, full of antioxidants, calcium, zinc, copper and selenium. Cacao contains more antioxidants per gram than blueberries, goji berries, red wine, raisins, prunes and even pomegranates

NATURAL CACAO  IS TOO BITTER FOR MY TASTE, CAN I STILL ENJOY THIS BEVERAGE?

O yes!  There are many different  recipes  to enhance the taste. Some recipes call  for milk which makes a delicious and more creamy beverage, condensed and evaporated milk are most popular. The  vegan community  adds  plant based milk ( coconut, oat or almond milk) for a milky hot chocolate taste.

If it still too bitter add more milk. 

HOW TO PREPARE THIS WONDERFUL BEVERAGE?

We strongly recommend  boiling your ground cacao for 8-15 minutes. The key is to dissolve the cacao into the hot water. Brewed cacao can be enjoyed black, with milk or nondairy creamer and a touch of sweetener if desired. Most drink lovers add vanilla beans and custard for thickness. Instruction labels are on the back of each packet to make the perfect cup every time. Remember to strain into a cup and ENJOY!.

 IS CACAO AN APHRODISIAC?

WHAT IS CACAO?

Cacao is the seeds of the fruit of the Theobroma cacao tree. The cacao tree is a tropical plant that grows only within 20 degrees latitude of the equator. The cacao tree produces pods all year long, so a typical tree would have pods in every stage of ripeness. The fruit of the cacao tree is a football-shaped pod. Picking ripe cacao pods is a difficult job. The cacao tree is frail and its roots are shallow. Because of this, most harvesting is done by hand, with machetes.  Cacao beans, are used to make chocolate liquor, cocoa solids, cocoa butter and chocolate

There have been a lot of questions that talks about cacao lately. For starters, can this food supercharge your health? The ancient Inca civilization revered this wonderful plant. Not only was it tasty, but they believed it had miraculous benefits. In the foothills of the Andes, cacao has gotten quite a reputation. All around the western world, this valuable piece of food takes high regard. From improving your memory and mood to upping the ante in the bedroom, cacao can do it all. The best part about it is that you don't need that much of it. With just a simple addition to your already balanced diet, you can reap the benefits on a daily basis. 

CACAO STICKS & CACAO BALLS?

The cacao beans are roasted, crushed (ground), spiced and then rolled into the balls or sticks.
Cacao sticks and balls have one main purpose: grating for cacao drink. Though the Caribbean drink is referred to as a tea, it's really more of a milky hot chocolate, The hot chocolate is especially popular in St. Lucia, but because Caribbean islands have been growing cacao trees for centuries, people from all islands have been making different versions of the beverage. Some recipes call for the addition of condensed and evaporated milk, spices like nutmeg and bay leaf

WHAT IS YOUR CACAO BEANS PROCESS ?

  1. Once Cacao pad are ripe. The pod are harvested and pulp-covered seeds are removed. 

  2. Cacao seeds are covered with banana leaves to ferment. 

  3. The beans are laid on tarps, patios or tables to dry in the sun. 

  4. The beans are sorted by hand for any signs of mold and insects.

  5. Roasting the beans not only kill potentially harmful bacteria but is also critical to the development of flavor.

  6. Winnowing- the beans are then cracked and separated from the cacao shell.

  7. The cacao nibs are then stone- ground and package for you.  

CACAO vs COCOA

Cacao and cocoa are both derived from the cacao bean, but differ in how they are processed. CACAO refers to the minimally processed form of the bean, while cocoa refers to the highly processed form. Cocoa powder is roasted at a higher temperature and typically supplemented with additives to cut the bitterness. CACAO is the raw bean and is often packaged as vegan chocolate that has been minimally processed with no additives. The terms cacao and cocoa are interchangeable linguistically, but CACAO has a more natural and healthier connotation, while cocoa has a cheaper and less healthy reputation.

IS CACAO CAFFEINE FREE?

Cacao contains a small amount of caffeine, as well as a compound called theobromine, which has a mild stimulating and energizing effect. So having our raw cacao drink can be a great afternoon pick-me-up without the over-stimulation and jittery feeling you can get from coffee.

IS DRINKING CACAO DAILY HEALTHY ?

It is very safe to drink cacao daily. We advise you to listen to your body and find what dose works best for you.Large amount of raw cacao can be dangerous. For starters, it contains theobromine. Consuming too much of this compound (which is very possible considering chocolate’s wonderful taste) can lead to unwelcome side effects like nausea, trembling, and sweating. Listen to your body and find what dose works best for you.

HOW SHOULD I STORE MY GROUND CACAO?

We recommend storing your ground cacao in a cool dry area. Normally room temperature is perfect and it can stay good for years.

Please note our coconut blend comes with an expiration date that only because coconut milk expires.

MAKER OR FRENCH PRESS
TO PREPARE CACAO?

Yes, you can place our ground cacao

in your coffee maker. But boiling is

recommended to bring out the

full richness of the cacao.

MY GROUND  CACAO HAS MELTED, CAN I STILL USE IT?

 Yes. This can happen when you leave your cacao in the sun, in the car or when  traveling and it's very warm. No problem! It can become a bit of a mess, but the cacao is still good.
